ADVault, Inc. is a unique person-generated health data company that helps people create or upload, update and share their advance care planning documents from any computer or mobile device for free. ADVault offers their all-digital, advance care planning platform via the award winning MyDirectives and MyDirectives MOBILE interfaces with consumer users in over 58 countries.
ADVault needed to leverage the eHealth Exchange national trusted exchange network to make its ADVault Exchange advance care planning document registry and repository more easily accessible to hospitals, providers and health information exchanges across the country.
The ADVault Exchange and ADVault’s consumer-facing MyDirectives solution have excellent APIs, but it was going to be very time consuming for their development team to translate between their existing API and the IHE (XCA) based standards broadly in use today on eHealth Exchange.
They also needed to fast-track the eHealth Exchange onboarding process so that participating hospitals and health information exchange organizations could help more people during a time when having access to a patient’s healthcare wishes was more important than ever.
With ADVault connected to eHealth Exchange, providers and caregivers would have access to critical advance care planning documents and planning documents as well as the other clinical information needed to make as informed decisions as possible.
ADVault was referred to Zen Healthcare IT as subject matter experts in the area of IHE based connectivity and national trusted data exchange. Zen’s technology and experience provided a fast on-ramp option to eHealth Exchange for the ADVault team.
Zen’s approach was to solve both the integration challenges and the onboarding overhead that are significant barriers to healthcare vendors wanting to join national networks like eHealth Exchange.
Quick Integration via an Adapter: Zen’s Gemini Stargate solution provides a gateway solution that sits between the ADVault API and eHealth Exchange (IHE – XCA endpoint). A custom adapter for the ADVault Exchange API was created within a few months and is being used for both eHealth Exchange and point-to-point IHE based exchange.
Rapid eHealth Exchange Onboarding: Zen’s familiarity with the eHealth Exchange onboarding process, including a deep level understanding of the security and connectivity testing elements, proved vital to moving ADVault quickly through the onboarding process.
Since onboarding to eHealth Exchange, ADVault’s Advance Care Plan Repository is receiving millions of queries a month. As healthcare community awareness grows, the overall value to patients and their families is immense.
In a Press Release, Jay Nakashima, Executive Director of eHealth Exchange highlighted the importance of ADVault’s participation in the eHealth Exchange community:
“Even before the current pandemic, we as a healthcare community understood that advance care plans are imperative to better serve people by understanding their wishes for care,” said Jay Nakashima, executive director of eHealth Exchange. “ADVault’s addition of personal COVID-19 statement functionality is a significant addition to the value that eHealth Exchange is bringing to our healthcare ecosystem. We thank ADVault and its integration partner Zen Healthcare IT for putting this collaboration on the fast-track so our participating hospitals and health information organizations can help more people during this intense global crisis.”
“Everyone at eHealth Exchange and at Zen moved quickly in recent weeks as the global health crisis caused leaders to realize the growing importance of advance care plans,” said Mike Munoz, ADVault’s Director of Product. “We are impressed with the entire team’s effort to focus on behalf of consumers and their goals of care.”
