SSL Extension FAQ

What is a Mirth® Connect Extension

As an open source healthcare integration engine, Mirth® Connect was designed so that people can add their own customized “extensions” to add new features. However, only very experienced engineers familiar with the Mirth® Connect platform have been able to design and deploy production-level extensions.

How can the SSL Extension help a Mirth® Connect channel engineer?

This empowers ordinary Mirth® Connect administrators and interface engineers to use SSL / TLS without the overhead of pure system administration and without the somewhat arcane processes for managing Java truststore and keystore entries.

What features are included in the SSL Extension?
  • SSL / TLS Certificate Manager built into Mirth® Connect workflow
  • Listeners, Senders, and Setting Managers for:
    • HTTPS
    • TCPS
    • LLPS
    • Web Services
  • Proactive SSL /TLS Certificate Expiration Alerts
  • Create self-signing certificates
  • Create Certificate Signing Requests (CSR)
What versions of Mirth® Connect does the SSL Extension currently support?
  • 3.10.1
  • 3.11.0
  • 3.12.0
  • 4.0.0
  • 4.0.1
  • 4.1.0
  • 4.1.1
  • 4.2.0
  • 4.3.0
  • 4.4.1
  • 4.5.0
What Connector types are supported?

The Zen SSL Extension for Mirth® Connect includes an enhanced version of the HTTP, TCP, LLP and Web Service Listener and Sender Connectors

Which protocols are supported?

The SSL Extension supports the following protocols:

  • TLS v1.2
  • TLS v1.1
  • TLS v1.0
  • SSL v3*

*Special note about SSL v3: Zen is able to assist clients with enabling SSL v3 in their legacy environment or when special circumstances require it.

Can the Zen SSL Extension notify users about certificates that are about to expire?

Yes. We believe proactive notification is a must for today’s healthcare interoperability.  With the Zen SSL Extension, the notification threshold can be customized by you. Set the notifications to trigger at 30 days, 14 days, 3 days, or whatever threshold makes sense for your ordinary certificate maintenance processes.

Can an SSL Extension be purchased from the makers of Mirth® Connect?

No, not as an a la carte solution. SSL extension capabilities are part of a larger, more expensive commercial license of Mirth® Connect. In addition, the Zen SSL extension has functionality that is not included in other alternatives.

How is the SSL Extension Licensed?

The SSL Extension is licensed per Production Instance of Mirth® Connect, and is available in either a month-to-month or annual subscription.

How do you define "Instances" in the SSL Extension packages?

The SSL Extension pricing packages include a maximum number of instances. From a pricing perspective, the number of production instances determines the pricing package and licensing details. Non-production servers used in support of the production servers are issued separate licenses, but do not count against your limit.

Can I upgrade if I need SSL management on more instances?

Yes. To upgrade, you can place your order for the next level directly on this website or contact a Zen advisor at info@zenhealthcareit.com or 949-396-0361. If you upgrade within an active licensing period, fees paid for your initial package will be prorated and applied to your upgrade package price.
