Jan. 20, 2016 – PRLog — Zen Healthcare IT, LLC, announced today that Marilee A. Benson has joined the organization as President, effective January 1st, 2016. Marilee has over twenty-five years of experience in the healthcare information technology sector, most recently as Vice President of Sales, Mirth® LLC, a leading health information exchange and interoperability technology company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quality Systems Inc.
Marilee’s initial priority will be to focus on growing Zen Healthcare IT internally and externally, with a focus on meeting healthcare client needs related to interoperability technical projects, senior level project oversight, and health information exchange and healthcare IT consulting.
Marilee brings her significant experience, industry contacts and leadership skills in the healthcare information technology sector, but most importantly, she brings her boundless passion for helping healthcare clients solve real world problems. She is passionate about leveraging technology to improve the lives and health outcomes for patients. And she brings her unique positive energy to everything she tackles. The Zen team is extremely excited about having Marilee on-board to provide visionary leadership in business and team development.
“I am extremely excited to join the Zen team. During my twenty-five+ years working in healthcare, it has become clear to me that healthcare organizations (both provider organizations and healthcare IT vendors) face significant hurdles to achieve true interoperability, and most of those hurdles are not technology dependent. The industry needs seasoned experts to support a wide range of interoperability projects within healthcare organizations in order to support the rapid movement to value based care models. A great example is the large number of provider practices that need to be on-boarded with both private and public health information exchange initiatives to support a growing number of emerging regional population health analytics initiatives.
Healthcare vendors and provider organizations won’t be able to successfully deliver on population health analytics without specialized assistance and creative approaches. Due to our deep industry connections and expertise, the Zen team is well positioned to be a valuable asset to healthcare organizations as they walk the “last mile” of interoperability on the path to value based care,” explains Marilee.
As Vice President of Sales at Mirth®, Marilee grew the sales team and revenues significantly. Under her leadership, Mirth® became a preferred vendor among state and regional health information exchanges across the U.S, with customers such as the State of Maryland HIE (CRISP), the State of Arizona HIE (Arizona Health-e Connection), the State of Arkansas HIE, regional HIE’s such as HealthShare Exchange of SE Pennsylvania and three leading New York RHIO’s (in Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo) being added during her tenure.
Marilee previously co-founded MicroSense, Inc., a healthcare IT company that was acquired by WebMD in 1999. Later, as a National Product Manager for WebMD/Medical Manager, she successfully orchestrated the roll-out of one of the first mobile applications for ambulatory physicians.
Marilee is a member of the WBL, Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Healthcare Industry Foundation, and has served on the Board of Directors for a non-profit, Mar Vista Family Center in Los Angeles, CA.
