Summer is sizzling and the Zen team is excited to be working with so many of you as you continue to focus on important healthcare interoperability projects and health data initiatives. It’s going to be a busy summer with a lot of events, virtual and actual IN-PERSON! We are really looking forward to the chance to see friends and colleagues again in “real-time”!

Zen was proud to host the HIMSS HIE & Interop Community Roundtable Webinar. The topic is ‘Achieving Smarter Query Based Exchange’ and collaborated with three Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) from across the country as they shared their challenges they are tackling in the effort to enhance query-based exchange as a vital component for both episodic and longitudinal care. Thank you to Reliance eHealth Collaborative, Rochester RHIO, and CRISP for bringing your great perspective and experience to this important topic!

This discussion also explored what achieving smarter query-based exchange could mean for the patient and for the future of nationwide, interoperable health information exchange. Click here to learn more.

In August, Zen will be heading out to the Las Vegas heat to see folks in person at our first in-person conference since COVID began – HIMSS 21. We will be at the Interoperability Showcase at kiosk C200-04, so be sure to stop by and say hello to the entire Zen team!

If you haven’t purchased your ticket to HIMSS yet, don’t worry we have a limited number of discounted HIMSS registrations available directly through HIMSS at a discounted rate of $515 until August 9th. These are regular HIMSS registrations and a great value for Zen friends and colleagues. If you would like a discounted ticket through Zen contact Dan Benson our Client Engagements Coordinator directly at danb@consultzen.com.

Zen is also attending and exhibiting at the 2021 SHIEC Annual Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. We are looking forward to reconnecting in person with our HIE friends across the country. The Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative brings together some of the smartest folks leading health information exchanges across the U.S. You can count on a fantastic learning opportunity as this group tackles some of the hardest problems in healthcare and health information exchange.

TEFCA Updated Timeline:

TEFCA Updated Timeline

As we are sure most of you are aware, in August 2019 the ONC awarded a cooperative agreement to The Sequoia Project to serve as the Recognized Coordinating Entity (RCE) to administer a new nationwide network based on the Common Agreement. Since then, ONC and the RCE have worked together to gather industry-wide stakeholder input to draft and refine the approach to enabling nationwide health information exchange across different health information networks.

ONC and the RCE have released a timeline for completion of the Trusted Exchange Framework, Common Agreement Version 1, and Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) Technical Framework (QTF) Version 1. Specifically, their goal is to have this new network open for participation in the first quarter (Q1) of calendar year 2022. Read the entire blog here to make sure you stay up-to-date on all things TEFCA.

USCDI Updated Version2 Released:

In case you missed the exciting USCDI news, the ONC has just released v2 . V2 includes important new data classes and elements. We are particularly excited about the inclusion of data standards for: gender identity, sexual orientation, and social determinants of health (SDOH).

Many of you have worked tirelessly to address these gaps in data standards and we are looking forward to starting to see these very important new data types being shared. These new data elements are a critical step to improve health equity and deliver whole person care.

We’re Here For You

Once again we want to thank you for your continued feedback and support over the years. We have a passionate team full of very smart people who truly care about what they do, and who are all working as hard as they can everyday to empower healthcare organizations through enhanced interoperability; allowing you to focus on what you do best, enabling cost effective, quality care to patients.

We understand that the ever evolving needs and demands for interoperability requirements can feel daunting, and we just want to remind you that we are always just one phone call away to help provide advice on how to best approach these challenges.
