If you are currently an eHealth Exchange participant or will be onboarding soon, you should be sure you are up to date on the rollout plans for the new Hub Model for eHealth Exchange. This new model promises to make it easier to maintain connectivity with multiple exchange partners and also adds access to optionally connect with Carequality Implementers. You can learn more by visiting eHealth Exchange’s website at https://ehealthexchange.org/onboarding/hub/.

Here is a summary of six key things to know*:

1. There is a new eHealth Exchange Agreement that will be required with some new addendums. eHealth Exchange expects participants to sign the new Agreement as early as the end of May 2019.

2. Current estimates are for a July / August 2019 launch for production queries via the Hub.

3. Participant fees are changing with the new options, depending on the type and size of the organization. Be sure to review the revised eHealth Exchange Participant fee schedule.

4. Many healthcare provider organizations and health systems will be exempt from additional hub fees (operating in less than 5 States OR less than $500M in annual revenues), but standard eHealth Exchange participation fees still apply.

5. You don’t have to move to the new hub model – if you and your exchange partners both agree to maintain the point to point connection.

6. Additional fees do apply if eHealth Exchange health organizations want to “opt in” to Carequality. These fees are based on annual revenues also and available in the new Agreement.

With all these options available to eHealth Exchange participants it is a bit complicated and we highly recommend spending significant time on the eHealth Exchange website and/or talking with eHealth Exchange staff to understand your options.
